Roche Harbor (ex.6)

Marianna was sitting at her desk reading World without End. “Straying from the classics I see?”

Mariana smiled. “If we limit ourselves to the classics, we fail to recognize new classics in our midst.”

“Like Sam’s magnum opus.” James stated as he took his usual seat next to Sam.

“Speaking of, how did the writing go? Inspired by the storm?”

“Not as much as I had hoped.”

“Well let it go and get in your zone and write. You realize that you have to be your own inspiration.”

“You should make a poster out of that.” James stated.

“Then I’d be a millionaire and wouldn’t need to teach anymore James. Then what would become of you.”

“Oh, don’t you worry about me. My father has plenty in store for his damaged golden boy. He will fit me in somewhere in his empire. Resident village idiot is available and I think I’m perfect for it.”

Marianna gave him a look that made him ashamed of his words. She hated when he talked like that & he hated when she looked at him that way.

“You guys have ten minutes.” She got up and went to monitor her end of the hallway. Sam could hear the sadness in her voice.

“Why do you have to say things like that to her?” Sam scolded.  “You know she doesn’t like when you talk about yourself like that!”

“I don’t know. Sometimes I do it for a reaction and sometimes I believe it’s the God’s honest truth.”

She smacked him on the shoulder. “You are never more of an idiot than when you say things like that.”
